Left Hip gives me something to write home about. It is a company that truly cares about all those involved. Giving every person who takes part a chance to express themselves.

Working with Left Hip on my recent play The Amaranthine Thread has been illuminating. Since I decided to write from the perspective of a Cale (Gypsy) woman, presenting her overtly lyrical dialogue, which also includes foreign words and references, proved a challenge. I risked both obscurity and alienating the audience. My narrative still needed a stronger core as well.

Not only did I receive candid feedback from both Bob Teague as director and Diamando Stratakos as producer, but I was also given the opportunity to rewrite the play until I found the story and made the play as accessible as possible without sacrificing authentic in representing Cale culture. I could not have done this without Left Hip's patience and encouragement, which are difficult to find for an emerging playwright. I consider Left Hip part of my global family, one in which bridges cultural gaps with a sincere willingness to understand other perspectives.
